Modifying the Defender is something that EVERY owner does in their own unique and special way, this could be something small like changing the light bulbs inside the cab to something very in-depth like shoe horning a 500bhp supercharged V8 in!

Either way the list of things that can be done is almost endless all with varying degrees of difficulty. One of the biggest visual changes you can do to a Defender is change the wheels, there is nothing else really that gives such a dramatic change instantly other changing the colour which can rarely be done at home on the drive haha!

When changing the design of the wheels some customers go for a wider tyre/wheel package giving the defender a much more rounded look however going to wide and changing the offset of the wheels can cause some issues in terms of width and stance even if the wheels are the same size (See pic)

In the UK tyres are not allowed to “protrude” further then the arch and if they do can be a MOT failure which obviously isn’t helpful.

So Britpart have developed an OEM arch kit that offers +30mm width and made with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) materials they really are outstanding bits of kit. You would never know that these items are an aftermarket item once fitted to the vehicle as they are made to the same high standard as the original ones so you will not have any issues in terms of fitment or quality!

In terms of fitment the rear ones are a straight swap and straightforward replacement.

Front ones are a little bit more in depth to get them 100% right; we have seen many arches fitted incorrectly causing future issues as when you don’t reuse the inner arch like we have you tend to get mud and water directly up on to the bulkhead which is less then ideal especially as these are prime spots for corrosion even with the protection in place!

When fitting the front arches it important to reuse the original ones by basically cutting the arch of the rest of the inner arch (inner arch moulds around the inner arch to protect from mud/rain etc)Doing this means you still have the exact protection the standard arch offers underneath but with the +30mm additional width. Once cut it is a bit fiddly getting it all lined up and then using the supplied fixings and getting them in but once done they definitely look the part!
