EGR Delete/Solution

If you own a car then you know the importance of maintaining it and boosting its performance. There are many ways to do it and one fairly popular way is to boost its performance through EGR delete especially if your current EGR is failing or already failed.

There are many ways you can tell when it’s time for a delete. However, after the EGR delete is done the efficiency and performance of your car increases significantly.

If you don’t know anything about this procedure then here is some helpful information that will guide you to make an informed decision.

Got a question?

Egr Dirty

What is EGR?

EGR is short for exhaust gas recirculation. In simple terms, this means that a proportion of the gas that the engine emits is recirculated back into the combustion chamber which helps reduce NOx emissions.

These are the functions that an EGR valve performs:

  • Reduces emissions
  • Reduces temperature in the combustion chambers
  • Prevents overheating inside the exhaust valves
  • Helps maintain the exhaust system

While an EGR valve performs all these functions for a car, it can also sometimes fail. This calls for the repair, removal or deletion of the EGR which ends up improving the efficiency and performance of your car.

Here is how you can detect symptoms of a failed EGR valve.

Symptoms of a failed EGR valve

Drop in the performance

If your vehicles EGR valve is not functioning properly, then you will notice this in the overall performance of your car. Your vehicle will offer a poorer performance than before and this might be a sign that you need to get the valve removed or simply deleted.

Increase in emissions

An EGR valve aims to decrease emissions. However, if the EGR valve is not working right then there will an increase in the emissions your vehicle will produce. A consistent increase in emissions means that you need to get your car’s EGR valve checked.

Boost in fuel consumption

When the EGR valve is open consistently your fuel will burn at a temperature that is not optimal for your vehicle. This will lead to your car burning more fuel which means your tank will now empty faster than before when your EGR valve was burning fuel efficiently.

Smoke from the exhaust

If your EGR valve is not working correctly then the fuel will also not burn efficiently. This can lead to smoke coming out from the exhaust. While this can sometimes happen normally, it is better to get a second opinion than to just let your car be.

Engine management light is turned on

Your vehicle can also detect that there is a problem with the EGR valve. When this happens, your engine management light will turn on to signal you that it needs to be checked.

One important thing to note here is the difference between depreciating and completely not working. If your EGR valve is malfunctioning then it will deteriorate slowly before it completely stops working.

However, your engine management light may turn on only when the valve has completely deteriorated. This is why you need to stay alert for other signs that might signal to you that your EGR valve needs to be deleted or removed. You may also have some of these codes as well stored in the ECU

Rough idle

When the EGR system is consistently open then there is constant airflow of gases that go into the manifold. This leads to a rough idle which prevents your engine from starting smoothly.

This is because a constant inflow of exhaust gases may lead to the engine stalling during idling. However, this can also be a sign of a faulty ignition system.

If these symptoms persist then it might be time for you to get EGR delete or removal to solve this problem.

What is EGR delete?

This process is done through an EGR delete kit (normally a blanking plate is inserted between the valve and inlet track) or the EGR valve can be removed physically (not recommended on more modern vehicles as under current UK MOT legislation if it’s not present its classed as a major fault and means it’s an instant fail).

An EGR delete is the option of remapping the ECU which halts the function of the EGR valve and also installing a black which are available from our shop click here. An EGR delete is a much more economical and improved solution than removing the complete EGR valve.

Decreases the temperature of the engine

EGR systems can also malfunction when they become blocked with something. This causes an increase in the temperature of your engine which is not good.

However, once you do an EGR delete then your engine will operate at a much cooler temperature for maximum performance.

Convenient and affordable

An EGR delete is not a long process and it is very affordable. This is usually easily done through the ECU (engine control unit) and is a very pocket-friendly option.

Improves the efficiency of fuel

Your engine will now run in a much cleaner manner which means that it will consume less fuel. Your fuel efficiency can improve by a significant amount.

This will give you more mileage, improve the way fuel us burnt and it will increase the lifespan of your engine since it will perform better.

Save on repair costs

A persistent malfunctioning of the EGR valve would have led to concurrent repair costs. This would have added up in the long run and been a burden on your pocket.

An EGR delete takes care of the problem completely and your car will not see any problems. This means that you save up on repair costs which you might have experienced again and again because of a faulty EGR valve.

Increased responsiveness

Since something is deleted that decreased the performance of your engine, now it will work better. This means that your engine will work more efficiently and respond to commands immediately.

A blocked or malfunctioned EGR can decrease the responsiveness of your engine which can lead to poor performance in the long run.

Before you decide to opt for an EGR delete please consult a professional for their opinion. Other than that you don’t need to worry as it is a completely safe process and won’t cause any issues in your car. It will only make it better!
