A customer of ours asked us if we could help with his running issues on his Buell X1 Lightning of course we said yes. The bike had a few faults mainly the running of it was extremely snappy and rich (to much fuel), the bike has a very basic Engine Management system which after fabricating a cable allowed us to communicate with it to do some datalogging. It turns out the Narrowband Lambda was at fault and not feeding the ECU with the correct figures it then uses a default value which is very safe (rich) this was quickly rectified at the same time the fuel/timing maps for both cylinders were adjusted to aid easier starting and better performance. The bike now pulls smooth and strong all through the gears and is returning impressive mpg.
The other issues with the bike were the upper heads were leaking oil, being 10+ year bike this is to be expected and the speedo was inop. We had to order the gasket set direct from Harley Davidson which they now sell a complete kit to rectify this problem.
