Which is best the TD5 VNT or TD5 Hybrid? In this post we will focus on the benefits of the Td5 Hybrid Turbo
We get asked a lot by customers which TD5 turbo is best for their vehicle and if all honesty it ultimately comes down to what they are wanting from their vehicle and the current the modifications they have.
Our TD5 Hybrid turbo offers ease of fitment with unmatched gains from others that are currently on the market offering a huge increase in both BHP and Torque while still retaining the factory OEM look.
As all the modifications to the turbo are done internally so on first glance you may not notice how much they have been reworked, we machine both the compressor housing and the exhaust housing allowing us to install a larger billet compressor wheel as well as a larger and stronger exhaust wheel with redesigned profile and blades coupled with the 360 up-rated bearing really bringing this up to modern standards and allowing us to run boost that far exceeds that of a standard turbo! If you prefer to have the turbo stand out more we can have it painted/dipped in almost any colour or design (this is an option as it does not offer anything in terms of performance and is purely for looks so we don’t offer this as standard)
The Td5 hybrid drives so good with linear and progressive power making for a very predictable and manageable response all the way to the rev limiter which we lower to 4400 (5000 Standard) if you opt for the no charge option of TD5 popcorn on our remap, keep in mind we can remap them so you have a huge torque dump around 2500 – 3000 rpm if you prefer after all its your choice.
The Td5 Hybrid packaged we sell CLICK HERE is just that a complete package that includes the turbo, remap and a 4 bar Map genuine bosch map sensor (with calibration included so no zener diode or boost box in required!!). What this means is you can rest assured that when purchasing this package from us or one of our dealers you get the very best in not only service but the performance of the package.
What’s a Zener diode I hear you ask? Have a look here for the long explanation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zener_diode but basically what it does is limit the amount of voltage being supplied from the MAP sensor to the input on the ECU taking away the safety/control aspect of over boost and making the ECU only ever see 1bar of boost so never going into limp mode. As you can imagine this can be very dangerous indeed! This is why we have chosen to run with a genuine Bosch Map Sensor as we know the correlation is 100% correct keeping the safety parameters in place within the control of the ECU. One thing that is important when setting up the turbo to the tune is setting the boost level, tunes that don’t have this have the potential to damage something as there is no safety net if something were to go wrong
Here is a video of one of our agents installing and testing it
